SoBran, Inc. is seeking an Veterinary Technician II to serve at the National Institutes of Health, Laboratory Animal Research Contract (LARC) in Dickerson, Maryland.
OVERVIEW: Responsibilities of this position are that of a Veterinary Technician II for SoBran's animal care contracts.
Duties (non-inclusive list): -
Understand and follow all Standard Operating Procedures and Quality Assurance Standards. -
Assist the veterinary staff with examinations and procedures, and alert them to emergencies or other animal related problems. -
Administer clinical treatments as directed (Topical, PO, IM, SQ, IV, ID). -
Monitor the health status of all animals. -
Safely and correctly handle and restrain animals for observation and procedure. -
Collect and record physiological data (pulse, respiration, heart rate, body temperature, etc.). -
Collect, preserve and prepare blood, urine, stool, and tissue samples for testing and shipment. -
Calculate drug dosages and administration frequencies. -
Identify and communicate signs of abnormal health and behavior in multiple species. -
Maintain all logs, electronic medical records and documentation accurately. -
Completes animal treatment updates and communicate changes with veterinary staff -
Assist the veterinary and research staff with surgical preparations and procedures. -
Place and maintain all forms and methods of animal identification in all species. -
Responsible for cleaning and sanitization of procedure areas and carts -
Achieve and maintain a technical proficiency score of at least 95% within one year of appointment, and each year thereafter. -
Provide technical guidance and training to level I and II staff -
Assist with the coordination of daily tasks to ensure everything is completed in a thorough, efficient, and timely manner. -
Develop and foster effective teamwork among the staff and management team. -
Keep an open line of communication so that management is aware of all ongoing issues. -
Collect post-mortem specimens for shipment or evaluation -
Perform embryo transfers or related activities -
Supervise caretakers during weekend shifts. -
Participate in weekly technical or SOP training. -
Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned. * Duty schedules are set at the discretion of the unit supervisor and/or SoBran Management to meet the requirements of the contract. Shifts typically occur between 7:00am and 3:30pm weekdays, and 5:30am to 2:30pm weekends and holidays. In addition, employees may be required to work beyond their scheduled shift or on non-scheduled days when unanticipated or emergency situations arise.
