The Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University is seeking up to two highly motivated veterinary anatomic pathologists to join a rebuilding group of academic diagnosticians.  We seek applicants who are successful educators with the ability and desire to mentor residents and DVM students in the art of the necropsy, exhibit strong diagnostic skills, have the ability to interpret samples from a variety of species, and can work closely with and support the clinicians in our hospitals and clinics.  We are hoping to recruit both an early career and mid-career anatomic pathologist who would join Cummings School at the rank of Clinical Assistant or Clinical Associate Professor, depending on level of experience.

The pathology service manages a robust caseload consisting of primarily dogs, cats, lesser numbers of horses, alpacas, and small ruminants, as well as a variety of exotic species from our Zoo Med service, our Wildlife Clinic and occasional animals from surrounding zoos and animal parks.  The section processes approximately 2,300 biopsies per year and 550 necropsies per year.  With cases coming from both primary and tertiary care facilities, we see a rich diversity of cases, both common and unique, providing ample teaching resources and the basis for a wide variety of research projects.

The successful applicants would be part of a group of four anatomic pathologist with diagnostic responsibilities. All pathology faculty members are expected to contribute to diagnostic activities and to engage in teaching didactic courses, laboratories, and rotations. Diagnostic activity will be distributed amongst the anatomic pathologists and is expected to require up to a 60% commitment.

All faculty members are expected to engage in sufficient scholarly activity to remain at the forefront of their discipline. For individuals with the appropriate interests and expertise, opportunities for engagement in independent and collaborative research are available.  Cummings School has expertise in infectious diseases (including BSL3 agents and SARS-CoV-2), neurosciences, comparative oncology, cardiovascular health, nutrition, and is developing a comparative pathology core.
