The Humane Society of Westmoreland County (HSWC) is searching for a dedicated veterinarian looking for a new opportunity to help combat homeless animals and offer essential low cost services for the community. The ideal candidate is willing to assist in creating an effective HQHVSN platform and community wellness and vaccination program. The candidate will work closely with Co-Directors in creating, improving and establishing high quality shelter medicine standards and has a passion for shelter medicine, team building and community involvement.
**The position offered is full time with Licensing fee reimbursement, Continuing Education reimbursement, vacation benefits and SIGN ON BONUS.**
Compensation is negotiable. Opportunities to make ~$100k-$150k/year!
-Oversight and medical care of all shelter animals, including dogs, cats and occasionally exotics. This includes initial examinations, administration of appropriate vaccinations, testing, treatments and surgical procedures. Management of shelter pet and herd health while pets are in the shelter’s care pending adoption. This also includes oversight and treatment of infectious disease/viruses.
-Adoption/creation/improvement of HQHVSN program from existing low cost spay/neuter program. Surgical procedures include routine spay/neuter for dogs, cats and rabbits, in-heat and pregnant spays, enucleation, occasional amputation, mass removals, dental procedures (with and without extractions), and TNR participation.
-Low cost veterinary care for the community including wellness/yearly examinations, vaccinations, testing, treatment of simple illness, Digital X-ray, routine bloodwork and optional Laser Therapy offered.
-Assistance with team building, training and adoption of high quality shelter medicine standard of care with clinic/surgical staff.
