The North Dakota State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (NDSU VDL) invites applications for an open Veterinary Diagnostician position. This is a non-tenure track position in an AAVLD accredited diagnostic laboratory and NAHLN member. The applicant must have a veterinary medical degree and be eligible for state licensure in North Dakota. Preference will be given to individuals with interests in pathology, toxicology, nutrition, and/or epidemiology. Candidates who have finished pathology residency and are studying for boards will be considered. Non-traditional specialty training in pathology and toxicology may be available depending on the chosen candidate’s professional goals.
Responsibilities include interfacing with clients on cases, case coordination, performing necropsies, consulting with veterinary pathologists on findings, and providing broad subject matter expertise in veterinary clinical or diagnostic medicine. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to diagnostic service and will interpret and communicate postmortem examinations and testing results to clientele, participate in the laboratory’s quality system, and perform other duties as assigned by the laboratory director. Excellent oral and written communication skills are critical to the position. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a benefited position with primary duties scheduled from Monday through Friday with no evening and very limited weekend on-call services. The NDSU VDL is an AAVLD accredited, full-service laboratory, and NAHLN member, serving the livestock and companion animal communities of North Dakota and the upper Midwest. The laboratory averages approximately 13,500 accessions annually, with emphasis on food animal diagnostics, but with a liberal mix of companion animal, equine, avian, and exotic cases, and a brisk biopsy service. The VDL is in a new facility as of Fall 2017.
