Job Description:

As an Equine Surgery Technician at KEAH, you will play a critical role in assisting with equine surgical procedures and ensuring the well-being of our patients throughout the surgical process. You will work closely with our veterinarians and other veterinary staff to provide top-notch care before, during, and after surgeries.

Key Responsibilities:

• Pre-Surgical Preparation: Prepare the operating room, ensure all surgical instruments and equipment are sterile and functioning, and assist with the preparation of horses for surgery.
• Intraoperative Assistance: Support the veterinarian during surgical procedures by providing necessary instruments, maintaining a sterile field, and monitoring the horse’s vital signs.
• Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment to ensure the highest standards of cleanliness and functionality.

Qualifications:

• Certification: Veterinary Technician Certification (LVT, RVT, or CVT) preferred; specialized training or certification in equine surgery is a plus.
• Experience: Previous experience as a veterinary technician with a focus on equine care and surgery is highly desirable.
• Skills: Proficient in surgical assistance, knowledge of equine anatomy, strong organizational and multitasking abilities, and excellent communication skills, ability to lift 50lbs on a repetitive basis throughout the day.
• Attributes: Ability to work effectively in high-pressure situations, attention to detail, and a compassionate approach to animal care.
